Kyuubi

Kyuubi - how many times have we encountered this name?

The Kyuubi is a mythological creature that has the appearance of a fox with nine tails. Many stories have been written, various myths have been said, being depicted both as good and evil, from a sign of Fortune to a sign of Misfortune.

The Kyuubi initially was depicted as a creature of fortune which was able to protect from evil. Later symbolizing peace and luck, being a gift sent from heaven. Latter it even became a protector of Royal blood. But by time, all of this changed. Legends altered and Stories got twisted. The Kyuubi had started to be seen as an omen, a creature which was able to possess people and bring chaos among nations.

Personally so far, I've met the Kyuubi's name several times. Today, the Kyuubi's name is being used in many ways, mainly assigned to creatures in anime and games. Below are some examples of where I encountered the name, mainly in manga/anime:

-----

In Ga-Rei, the Kyuubi is an evil spirit. In the story it is mentioned that in the past, in order to protect the world, people tried to exorcise the Kyuubi. In the attempt to exorcise it, the Kyuubi's spirit broke down into fragments similar to jewels. These fragments brought omens and chaos. Those who encountered it and had no spiritual protection would eventually become possessed by it - boosting their negative feelings and making them lose conscious. Little was seen about the Kyuubi's power but that which was revealed was that the Kyuubi was a creature who wished to wipe Earth and whatever it touched resulted being disintegrated.

-----

In Naruto, the Kyuubi is a nine-tailed fox with red-orange fur and red eyes. In this story, the Kyuubi is a beast being sealed into humans since they couldn't destroy it, later trying to control it in order to be used as a weapon. The Kyuubi here is considered a natural disaster, appearing out of nowhere bringing chaos amongst humans. While being sealed within Naruto, the story depicts the Kyuubi as a creature which has intense hatred and distrust towards humans. Each time Naruto loses himself to anger, the Kyuubi seizes the opportunity to try and gain control over Naruto, encouraging his rage and slowly trying to consume him.

In Pokémon, not exactly being named Kyuubi but based on it, is the Ninetails - a nine-tailed fox-like creature covered with a thick golden-white fur and with orange at the tips of the tail, having red eyes that are said to give them the power of mind control. The Ninetails, a highly intelligent creature, having the ability to wield ghost type attacks, is a vengeful Pokémon which is known to curse those who mistreat them. It is also depicted to be very protective about its tails, holding a grudge towards those who try to touch them.

In Digimon, we find the Mythical Animal Kyuubimon. Unlike other cases, in this story the Kyuubi is depicted as a good creature; a guardian and protector, using the power of spirits. Kyuubimon, visually depicted as a golden furred nine-tailed fox with white a white mane, has white-blue mystical flames around its paws and at the tip of each tail, which are believed to hold spiritual power.

As it can be seen - the Kyuubi's name is being used from being protectors and guardians to being demons and evil spirits - still being depicted either as good or bad.

Personally, I've liked how in each story certain aspects have been kept alive.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog.

Thanks for your time,
